The Federal Trade Commission announced its efforts to promote Tax Identity Theft Awareness Week. Scheduled for Jan. 30 through Feb. 3, Tax Identity Theft Awareness Week provides consumers will tips on how to identify and protect against this type of fraud and what to do if they become a victim.

The FTC will mark the week with free webinars and Twitter chats. The agency has also developed tweets, tips, and blog posts that companies can use to promote tax identity theft awareness in the community. For more information, visit ftc.gov/taxidtheft.

Additionally, ABA has developed a customizable press release highlighting seven tips consumers can use during tax season to prevent tax ID fraud, like filing their returns on a protected Wi-Fi network and filing taxes early before the fraudsters have a chance.
